Zuiderzee Chair - Gispen
2012Originally commissioned by the Zuiderzee Museum Enkhuizen, Hutten designed the Zuiderzee chair. He took the typology of the most common traditional Dutch chair for many centuries, the ‘knob-chair’. The ingenious construction is very light weight. The sticks give strengt in the horizontal and vertical direction, while the thin and light seat and back give strength in the other directions.
The bending of the seat is stretching the traditional bended veneer plywood to it’s limited, almost looking like a leather slap folded around the sticks. Part of the permanent collection of The Zuiderzee museum Enkhuizen.
