Rhino chair - Gispen

2000

Hutten’s aim was to make a piece of furniture which was not constructed. In his research he ended up with rotation moulding, for which he than made his own rotation moulding machine. He than first made the ‘constructionless’ children chair. For this chair he used two different types of plastic, one more rubber like and the other a hard material. The pattern on the outside is the result of the rotating in the mold, and can not be controlled. Each chair therefor is unique. Later this concept was translated into an industrial product for Gispen, suitable for indoor and outdoor use. Besides the Rhino easy chair the family consist of the Centraal Museum dinning chair and the Bronto children chair, all for Gispen.
